Barbecue Cleaning Tools
I strongly recommend having some barbecue cleaning tools in your toolkit. BBQ food is all about a smoky taste and not about dirty greasy marks from a grill that hasn’t been cleaned. Successful barbecue cooking is about creating the smoky flavour, fat drips onto the coals and creates the smoke that infuses the food. Fat is necessary for a good BBQ cookout. Inevitably fat deposits form on the food rack as the barbecue cools down and if not cleaned off these deposits form a greater surface area for more fat deposits. The rails of the grill go black, get thicker and when you next fire up the black fat mobilizes and makes dirty great lines across your steak - hardly appetizing. What about where to buy cleaning tools? Considering the range of tools available, quality of service and competitive pricing, I've found BBQ.com to be well worth a look.

I make a point of cleaning my grill after every cookout because (like cleaning anything) if it’s done regularly it’s actually not that big a chore and I prefer to us a scraper first followed by a wire brush. TIP - A thin scraper is much more versatile than a thick one. You can get combination barbecue cleaning tools that have a wire brush pad, a scraper attached to it like a snow plough (pictured below) and a second nylon abrasive pad. They really look the part but I find them less effective because the scraper is so wide it’s not easy to work with and the nylon pad breaks away very quickly so you have to replace the whole tool or use loose wire wool. Individual tools may be more expensive to buy but they last a lot longer and therefore represent best value for money.

For me a scraper is the most versatile barbecue cleaning tool because:- - A scraper really gets the heavy dirt off
- You can approach the scraping from all angles
- Hopefully you can keep hands relatively clean!
Give the food rack a good scrape until you’ve got most of the dirt off and then take a small amount of damp wire wool, wrap it around the rail and run the length of the rail. If there are still dirty deposits on the rail you can go to it with the scraper again. Related Pages:-
