Healthy BBQ Beans – A Salad!
For healthy bbq beans I go for this haricots verts recipe every time. For those of you that don’t speak French, haricots verts are long thin green beans.
It’s a very simple recipe to do and makes a great accompaniment to any barbecue cookout and because it’s an accompaniment it’s not essential to light the barbie, you can of course use this recipe at any time of the year with grilled meat or fish.
Ingredients:-
250g or ½lb of green haricot beans
Olive oil
1 clove chopped garlic
salt and freshly ground black pepper
Method:-
Top and tail the beans, pop them in a pan of boiling water and cook for 5 - 10 minutes until al dente and then strain and tip into a bowl. Do take care not to overcook the beans, there’s nothing worse than a soggy salad!
Peel and chop the garlic and sprinkle over the beans with a good lug of olive oil and then finish off with salt and pepper to season.
That’s all there is too it, serve warm or at room temperature with your choice of barbecue food…….and a glass of wine too!
