BBQ Hamburgers – The Basic Mix

If you're looking for a base for all good BBQ Hamburgers then you've landed at the right place. This is what I call the basic mix, it makes for an excellent hamburger and can be used as a foundation from which to build in more flavors.

It's really easy to make the mix and they cook well wherever you are (I did mine on one of those disposable tailgating grills and got perfect results). If you are going to use this recipe when away from home, note that part of the mix is made up in the food processor – somewhat less than portable! You can either make the whole mix in advance or assemble on site and crack in the egg.

BBQ Hamburgers Cooking On A Disposable Grill

The egg acts to bind everything together but isn't absolutely essential. If you want to leave it out then that's your choice but you may need to be a bit more gentle when it comes to flipping. You may also find that a Teflon BBQ mat will help prevent the burgers from sticking to the cooking grate.

There's enough here for 6 good sized burgers so if you need more, just double up on the quantities.

Serves:- 6 people

Preparation Time:- 15 minutes
Cooking Time:- 20 minutes

Total Time:- 35 minutes

Ingredients:-

  • 1lb or 450g ground beef
  • Half an onion
  • 1 slice of bread
  • 1 clove of garlic, peeled
  • ½ teaspoon ground coriander
  • ½ teaspoon paprika
  • a little pepper
  • a little salt
  • 1 egg

Method:-

Put the onion, bread and garlic into a food processor and blitz to form a paste. After that just combine your paste with the ground beef, season and crack in the egg. Mix it thoroughly (just get your hands in and give it a good mulch) and form your patties.

Grill for 10 minutes on each side and then you're ready to go. Serve with lightly toasted buns, salad and the homemade barbecue sauce of your choice.
