How do I tell what is a low temp, medium temp or high temp in a recipe?

by CAS
(NC)

I just purchased a Pro series 1415 and just exploring different recipes. A lot of them call for cooking at a medium temp. or high temp. But not sure what that means in degrees.

How do I tell what is a low temp, medium temp or high temp in a recipe?

Answer:-

Temperature is very subjective so it's difficult to give you an absolute answer on this one. If you're using the hood on you grill then I work on the following:-

  • Low - 110°C or 225°F
  • Medium - 150°C or 350°F
  • High - 200°C or 390°F

There is another a way to gauge what temperature your grill is at, it's less scientific and it could burn you so you must be careful.

Hold you hand over the grill - an inch or so over the main cooking area. You be able to tell how hot your grill is by how long you can hold you hand there.

  • Less than a second - Hot!
  • 2-3 seconds - Medium
  • 5-6 seconds - Low

There's no prizes for burning yourself so please do be careful.
