Learn How To Haggle And Get The Best Deal

It doesn’t matter whether the economic climate is good bad or indifferent, it’s generally accepted these days that if you walk into a store, the price you see is not necessarily the price you have to pay. So if you’re going to get a good deal then you’ve got to know how to haggle and to do it confidently.

Do you feel uneasy when it comes to bargaining? I used to but now that I have learned how to haggle I can do it with confidence and get the best deal that the store can give.

The secret is to do your preparation, understand the pricing of the product that you want and prepare your plan. It’s not like a game of cards, if you bluff, generally you lose because you’re asking for a discount that simply isn’t possible.

Do Your Research

If it’s a barbecue that you’re looking for then first of all decide on the make and model that you want, then it’s time to shop around. Check the price of your barbecue at as many stores as you can and get a feel for the variety of prices on offer. You can bet that if one store can do it lower than the others then actually the others can too……you just need to ask.

Check the internet. Downtown stores have to compete with internet stores but probably won’t be able to match directly because the internet store doesn’t have all the costs that a traditional store has. It'll give you a good guide and help you determine your target price.

Examples of internet stores include BBQGuys.com and GrillsDirect.com

Set Yourself A Target

After your research you now know broadly speaking what to ask for but before you walk into the store of your choice set yourself a target and a “walkaway point”. This will ensure that you don’t spend more than you have budgeted and it also serves to focus the mind on what’s actually important.

Be Confident

It’s easy. After all you know that the price your asking for is actually possible so there no need to feel uncomfortable. Focus in on the price and get that price down as far as you can before moving onto the next step.

Get Something Thrown In

For the barbecue example, how about some charcoal and wood chips? If the price tag is $20 and you get it thrown in then you’ve saved $20 but it’s probably only cost the store $7 or $8 so it’s a good way for the store to close a deal.

Shut Up

When you’ve done the deal, don’t say any more because you’ll only let yourself down by saying yes to an extended warranty or some other technique the salesman has to help you part with your hard earned cash.

If you’ve read this and still don’t feel confident how to haggle then there is an easier way to get the best deal………buy on the internet. Internet stores such as BBQGuys.com and GrillsDirect.com usually only get one chance to create a first impression with you and that’s with price. With low overheads and no salesmen to pay you’re always going to get close to the best deal with just a click of your mouse.
