EFF ed again!
by: Anonymous

I have replaced my burners and plates just like every body else on here, and I am doing it again! I wonder how many suit and ties from Jenn Air have actually seen one of these rip offs.

I build custom kitchens and used to recommend Jenn Air for appliances, but they have become a quality issue also.

On a brighter note my grill is 6 years old and still looks great on the outside, just can't cook on it!

Not a well made product
by: Rod

I have owned a Jenn Air bought at Lowes for 6 years. In that time I have replaced the burners 3 times and the plates twice.

Bottom line even with a warranty and regular cleaning it is a hassle and a poorly made product . Last set of burners have actually melted together in the back so only one side burns when lit. That is why I have a new Weber 470 on order.

Jenn Air name, Next Grill manufacturer
by: Chris

I had the $1000/lowe's grill for about 3 weeks until I started running into problems. I called the # given and found out that Jenn Air doesn't even make the grill, they only license the name out to a company called Next Grill. As soon as I heard that, I packed it up and brought it back and went and ordered a stainless Weber!!

Needless to say, I have had it now for over a year and have never had a problem! If you want a good grill.......buy from a company that prides itself on only GRILLS!

Good luck!

about"--- jenn aire is great"
by: dave

EVERYONE..
I'd like you to welcome TOM another jenn-aire employee!!!! everyone say hi to tom!!

OK we are back to the Corvair story.....My jen aire, (Tom, i have to stop here..it is not a real jenn aire it is a Nexgrill thats the main point of this thread) there---- we all on the same page now.
quote:
"mM grill has been excellent, course I have replaced all the burners and flash plates".

Tom ,these are the same problems most people have had, If ALL of the other threads are read it becomes like a divine revelation. Of course the smoker tray dissolves after a while also, not quite as fast a fizze (remember those) but when you pull it out one day you will only have a little stainless steel handle in your hand.

I'll have to give you the one about the igniter, same battery also? for those 5 years?? you are truly blessed and probably should have the local priest/minister out to check it for divine intervention.
the smoker tray is not covered by nexgrill..
to recap:
They shouldn't use jenn aire name
They should re-make the burners so we don't have to replace them every 2 -3 years - freight cost are expensive
Redesign the flash plates, same reason
put in a igniter system like the one tom has..by the way I replaced my igniter sys after 2-3 years, it was a pain..
grilling season is almost upon us....lets fire em up.
Thank you for your time.
by the way I'm not heartless. My grill is in 95% great shape..

Jenn Air Junk WEBER GREAT
by: Don

I bought my Jenn-Air from Lowes about 3 years ago before that I had a Weber for 15 years. Jenn-Air used to have a quality name & that's why I thought I would try it.

Come find out their grill has many issues. The flame blows out easy, heavy cleaning required, catch tray sucks, Very hard to sear a steak.

I have drilled holes in one of the deflector plates to get more heat this helps but on windy days still not enough.

Over the past three years I have noticed changes on the burners on Jenn-Air also when you look at these China Made Grills of Jenn Air and other brands they tend to look very similar (China made - just a way for companies to make more money cheaply). I never had these issues from Weber. A new Weber is in the future.

Jenn-Air is the best!
by: Tom

I'm not sure what has happened to the guy who says Jenn-Air is no good.....I have had my grill for 5 years plus and the ingniters still all work.

I have had the burners and spill plates replaced under warranty once and had no trouble with that and no questions asked.

Before I bought this grill I could not get more than a couple of years out of any grill I bought.

Jenn-Air is great, you can tear up an anvil if you want to.

JennAir replacement burners
by: Anonymous

Just called for the lifetime replacement burners.
The grill bought at Costco 5 years ago is in great shape except for the burners.

I never thought it would be under warranty.
They charged me $16 for 3 new burners. Just the cost of the shipping.

Have your model number and serial number. I had never previously registered the grill Good Luck

Jenn Air Grills Are Great
by: Sal

Jenn Air grills are great grills.

People always try to get something for free, Just because you paid a 1,000 dllrs for the grill doesn't mean it comes with maid service people need to learn how to read there manual and stop being lazy.

Just like everything else it requires maintenance.

Agree with all of you on this, also have the Jenn Air and at the 4 year mark, appears the burners look like afterburners on a jet due to the separation gap on each burner. Interior railings rusting....700.00 down the drain.

GREAT GRILL
by: J-MAHN

MY JENN-AIR IS ABOUT SEVEN YEARS OLD, WAS UNDER WATER IN KATRINA AND STILL WORKS GREAT. I PRESSURE WASH IT THREE TIMES A YEAR AND HAVE NEVER HAD A PROBLEM. I DON'T TURN IT ON HIGH TO BURN IT CLEAN AS THIS WILL WARP THE EVAPORATION PLATES AND SHORTEN THE LIFE OF THE GRILL. I HAVE THE SMALLER MODEL, AND AT $750.00 (FROM LOEWS) IT CERTAINLY WAS AN INVESTMENT. THIS MODEL HOWEVER WAS CONSTRUCTED ENTIRELY OF STAINLESS STEEL INCLUDING THE GRATES, THE ENTIRE BODY AND THE HEATER PLATES AS SOME CALL THEM. THE BURNERS ARE INDEED SOLID CAST BRASS AND STILL EXHIBIT THEIR ORIGINAL COLOR. A LITTLE NON-SCENTED CAT LITTER IN THE GREASE CATCH TRAY HELPS IN CASE YOU FORGET TO EMPTY IT. IT COOKS EVENLY AND QUICKLY SHOULD I WANT IT TO. BUT MOSTLY EVERYTHING SLOW COOKS AND FLARE-UPS ARE RARELY A PROBLEM.MY ONLY PROBLEM IS THE WEIGHT. AT CLOSE TO 200 POUNDS, IT IS NOT EASY TO LOAD IN THE TRUCK BED AS WE TAKE IT TO PARTIES AND ON CAMPING TRIPS. STILL, I THINK I'LL KEEP IT..........J

Jenn Aire Grill Is A Rip Off
by: Anonymous

The comments on the poor quality of this product are dead on. Jenn Aire is allowing the use of their name to rip off consumers.

If you're going to spend this kind of money buy another brand or buy something significantly cheaper and replace every few years.

The cost of replacement parts is ridiculous.

This is not a Jenn Aire product. Do not buy.

I guess some are easy to please
by: larry

WOW..Rome....I guess you dont mind all the dirty work.

as for me, I paid around $1100. for my jenn air, I think on sale. I'm pretty sure that burners should not need that much maintanence each year. On cleaning your grill I applaud you. unfortunately only certain Items are under warranty. The others are not. We will hope and assume the nextgrill co. will be in business tomorrow, otherwise there goes that $1100.
I think one of the key issues here (and jenn air wont get you burners. they wont have anything to do with you) is that it is dishonest to put your name on something and then not stand behind it. Yes I know, it happens all the time but that doesn't make it right. even lowes stopped selling them. Was it profit or problems?
I'm not an engineer but i believe you can make the burners out of something that does not deteriorate each year. My last barbque had s/s burners and i never had to touch them in 4 years unfortunatly it was a built in and stayed with the house.
The unit itself is reasonably well made I'll give you that. But to be honest Rome, mine has 4 burners and its a pain in the behind to clean them all. I believe nextgrill should update all of the ones they have sold so they last (even if the company doesnt). anyway The burner problem is only one of the issues.
good luck Rome!
I guess thats my 3 cents worth.

My Jenn Air is 4 years old now.
by: Anonymous

I've had my intermediate size grill for about 4 years now. I , too, was disappointed to find out that JennAir had simply lent its name to NexGrill.

....however....

After four years, I can only say that it continued to provide good service. With regard to the burner manifolds (The cast iron ones) having the clean them annually isn't a big issue. You've got to do that with any grill. And, if they do wear out...like mine did after 3 years....THEY ARE LIFETIME GUARANTEED! So, you simply let Jenn Air know and they will send you four new ones.

I strip mine down every spring, clean each piece, polish up the surfaces, replace any worn parts, and have at it for another season. "Normal" gas grills won't last as long. Still, is it worth the $900 I paid for it at Lowe's? Well, given the choice, I'd probably continue looking for other more well-known brands but all in all I'm pleased with this one. I especially like the catalytic rotissiere burner which is mounted vertically in the back. Cooking something on the rotissiere is easy because you can simply put an aluminum pan below the food and it won't catch fire. The burner on the back does all the work and it does a fantastic job. That's something you won't get on a less-expensive grill.

Just my 2 cents.

If you send me the pics and briefly write up what you did, I'll post it as a web page. It'll probably be the first of it's kind in cyber world and no doubt it would really help what must be many folks who've bought Jenn Air and started to regret it.

Well I got the burners fot the 25.00 each .....guess....They don't quite fit and I am not giving up.. next I will do what ever I have to to make this work. I will have to take the grill apart and clean out and re-set the valves and gas supply and modify the burner or whatever the hell I have to do including taking the whole thing apart and re-assembling it.

If anyone would like I will take pics and follow the project as done.

LETTING SOME JENN-AIR
by: Jim G

I bought the Jenn-Air 720-0165 at Lowes here in the mountains of NC and paid as I remember about 1600 bucks.

I thought since it was JENN_AIR I was really getting something that would last.. WRONG! I will NEVER buy any grill or appliance from Lowes or Home Depot or any Big Box store again... You would think I would know better since I have been a building contractor for over 40 years.. but I used to believe in brands until this and some other situations including a John Deer Mower or two.

Its damn insulting when you call the dealer and ask for parts for the piece of garbage you thought was actually made by the people who had their brand on it. Not to mention that you paid good money for it, and was told that the reason it was falling apart was because you bought the "entry level" product when it was being represented as the top of the line.

We don't have to look very far to see why this country is in such a horrible financial mess when ALL products presented to the public are a farce.

Everything is the corporate bottom line, not who can make the "better mouse trap" but only those that can make the consumer THINK he is buying the "better" mouse trap....It's all in the corporate office and not in the factory.

That does not exist any longer as does not any integrity of the companies that have been bought for there quality and success and then prostituted for there name at the expense of the consumer.

Oh by the way I will NEVER buy from a company with out research because the one of the few things that we do have is this internet so folks like me can rant on and on.. If you got this far thanks for reading. By the way I did find the burners for the Jenn-Air for about 25.00 each and had a local metal shop make four plates for 15.00 each out of thicker steel. I am determined to make this piece of crap last as long as possible.

Jenn Air Gas Grill Review
by: fyrcapn

I have to agree with all of you.

It is very dishonest to have someones name on it that wont take responsibility for it..how would a Ferrari buyer feel if he spent 200k and it was made by Yugo? I'm thinking that the state attorny general needs to hear about this.

Lowe's should not stoop to fraud to make a profit, lets call it what it is..keep those comments coming...you know they sold thousands of those grills..

Caveat Emptor, who made that product?
by: JC

After 4 years of doing the same I finally gave up the ship and got a new grill that had lifetime warranty on the burners.

I immediately registered my grill online because of what happened to my Jenn Air. Apparently, NXT was a Lowe's China joint venture company with the Jenn Air name slapped on.

Unfortunately I have purchased many products from Lowe's which Lowe's subsequently carries for 1-2 years, switches vendors, then provides no replacement parts or post purchase care/support for. This is a predominant issue where Lowe's utilizes a Chinese manufacturer to make a line of products that are lower end and pays the American company a royalty to slap their American well manufactured name on it.

You would be amazed by the fact that there are multiple Lowe's Buyers, yes buyers, who own multi million dollar mansions on Lake Norman. These products like the Jenn Air and others not made by Jenn Air as well as the many seasonal items from China help bolster Lowe's skimpy profit margin and result in heartache for poor consumers like you and me Larry.

I always ask and validate whether the products are actually made by the OEM or not. I also bought a John Deere riding lawnmower years ago that I found out was made by Scott's.

The folks at Deere said that the Scotts mowers with the JD name on them went to the big box retailers like Lowes and Home Depot. Caveat Emptor!

try this
by: fyrcapn

erik , if you haven't already..try this.
my burners clogged up with rust or whatever. there is a clip on the bottom back of the burner take that off and the burner should lift out..the gas holes are probably clogged. take a drill bit or something else about that size of the hole and clean them out. I also took a steel brush to the outsides of the holes.then you will have to shake out all of the crud thru the big end, also hit the burner with the wood or plastic end that will get out even more stuff..that is what was causing my low, uneven heat..and you might already know that new valve in the propane bottles sometimes screws up and cuts flow down..shut off, bleed off, and turn back on slowwwly..sometimes that works..I believe the new valve(sort of new) is called OPD..to cut down pressure in case of a leak. best fyrcapn

Jenn Air sucked from start to finish
by: Erik

I bought a Jenn Air BBQ gas grill at Lowes about 5 years agao. Within a week the grill's ingitor stopped working. Within two years the thing was not working properly. I just tried to fire it up on Labor Day and with a brand new gas tank I can't get enough flame to grill. Such an amazing piece of dung. I dumped about $600 or $700 into it if I remember, thinking top of the line. It was such a piece of crap....from two weeks after I bought it to today, when I am putting it out on the curb.

Don't buy Jenn Air, just keep walking. This experience made me decide not to buy any crap from them. No fridge, no stove. Nada

follow up as promised from fyrcapn
by: Anonymous

received the burners and igniter for freight only as promised..The book says the burners are cast brass, but these burners are the same as the ones that came with it..which i am guessing are cast iron or steel...they are a blackish metal..maybe i will re-call them just for clairification.

the smoker tray and diffuser cover that installs over it are now (as should have been in the beginning) all made of stainless steel..so that should solve my problem of those parts rusting.

To all you grillers...look close when you buy, take it apart if you have to, Check the warrenty..But above all have fun, cook good food and for god's sake lets gain a few pounds this summer.. best, fyrcapn

Jenn-Air 720-0165
by: Merritt

I purchased this grill at Lowes 3 years ago last month. I purchased the cover too. Besides the grill, I also bought the out door sink, & refrigerator. The grill started giving problems with-in 3-4 months. After extensive cleaning I was able to resume use of this 7 foot monster. When it was obvious I needed some replacement burners (they warped) I returned to Lowes to find not only had they stopped selling these grills; they didn't have and didn't know where to get replacement parts or service. When I contacted Jenn-Air, I was told they didn't have parts and gave me a web address to try. $50.00 a burner is really out of whack if it doesn't last more than 18 months. Hell I've got Lodge cast iron pans I use all the time, mostly on high heat, and they've never warped. Owned these pans for over 25 years. Jenn Air must of used a special metal.
This grill looks great up on the raised patio I built for all this stainless steel. The sink works like it's supposed to, and the refrigerator keeps all my beer, wine, sodas cold as I sit up on my patio looking at this piece of junk. Side burner still works, and the drawer are great to hold all that stuff for grilling on my "WEBER"
Had this Weber for 15 year. Keep it clean, is all you got to do. Works the same now as it did when I got it, to go with my other one I've had since 1978. No you won't see me down at Lowes or anywhere else buying a gas grille, let alone Jenn-Airs pieces of junk. Matter of fact, I'm not shopping there anymore. We have a real fine Orchard Supply here in Gilroy, CA. They also stand behind everything they sell. Hell thats where I bought my webers.

Very unhappy griller in California

Jenn Air BBQ Grill Experience
by: Paul

Thanks for sharing your Jenn Air BBQ grill experience with us all.

It's really interesting to hear what you've had to go through and also good to hear that in some way Jenn Air (or Nexgrill) have gone some way to demonstrate customer service.

It just goes to show that we all have to take care when buying a BBQ grill to look very carefully at the construction materials and also which parts are covered by the warranty.

Please let us know how everything turns out. Sadly your experience is your misfortune but the more info you can give us about how things turn out adds quality information for all of us struggling to make a buying decision.

All the best and keep on grillin'!

Update To Jenn Air Barbeque Grill
by: fyrcapn

On advice... and in the spirit of the whole story, I am adding to my post.

I called the number in the owners manual for warranty for jenn-aire (nexgrill)the guy couldn't
have been nicer..they are sending out 4 new burners and igniter..for freight only charges..
unfortunately the smoker(wood chip) drawer and and the metal cover over it are not warrantied. it will cost me 50 bucks..

I'm hoping they have updated the parts to something that wont rust especially since the other 99% of the barbeque is stainless steel.I know you can get smoker boxes but the wood chip drawer is a handy item. If the next one rusts I wont replace it.

So I guess I have to say I was taken care of.
It's too bad the others that had negative results couldn't be this lucky...if anything changes I will re-post.. as the parts are not actually here yet.
