Jenn Air Gas Grill

Paul's Notes About The Jenn Air Gas Grill Reviews Below:-

I've never owned a Jenn Air gas grill and from what's been written about them, perhaps I'm one of the fortunate ones?

Whenever I write a review of any barbecue equipment I like to be objective, focus in on the positives and try and give some steer as to what sort of person should buy one. Having listened to what others have said about Jenn Air gas grills, I have to say that I am struggling. Albeit we have had some positive stuff written.

I've also picked up that we shouldn't confuse the indoor appliances made by Jenn Air as these generally seem to get good reviews, it's simply the outdoor grill. Here's what I've picked up from all the folks who've written to me so far:-

  1. They are not made by Jenn Air - they are made by Nexgrill in China
  2. Marketed by Lowe's hardware and Costco, after sales service is at best poor, at worst, non-existent.
  3. The most common complaint is rusty burners
  4. Once rusty, they don't give out enough heat

There's more and you can read some individual grill reviews below and having read all of them it would appear that the main problem rests with the burners. A bargain price might attract you to a grill that doesn't have stainless steel burners and it would seem that this is a false economy.

Certainly, when new, they perform admirably, prices are
competitive and you'll see other Jenn Air outdoor gas grill revues elsewhere on the internet that will corroborate this statement but it would appear that problems only start a couple of years in and no regular reviewer of BBQ grills is going to keep one that long.

Certainly if I owned one, the first thing I would do is buy a grill cover to protect it from the elements.

Now over to Richard:-
I purchased a JENNAIR GRILL in April 2006 from LOWES with the JENNAIR cover.

The grill brochure shows a lifetime warranty on all STAINLESS STEELS parts. I've had to replace the burners already.

Now the stainless steel parts that hold the burners in the rear of the main bowl have rusted out. GRILL SERVICES tells me that the model number is no longer manufactured an that I will have to take it to a metal fabricator to make and weld the parts in the grill.

According to MAXINE GUZMAN at Grill Services, JENNAIR only wants to reimburse me $50 for the repairs OR I can return the grill that I purchased with a lifetime warranty for more than $625.00 to LOWES for a depreciated value of close to $180.00.

WHY BUY JENNAIR??? DON'T! THEIR PRODUCT IS NO BETTER THAN THEIR WARRANTY. LIMITED LIFETIME/LIFETIME WARRANTY MEANS NOTHING FOR STAINLESS STEEL. You might as well be a cast aluminum. At least my last Cast aluminum grill survived close to 14 years before it died.

More About Jenn Air Gas Grills:-

I have a 720-0141 LP Jenn Air Propane Grill (Drop-In).

Nightmare to perform maintenance on.
Burner cotter-pins for burner removal almost impossible to get to.
Lid too heavy.
Rarely achieves a temp. of 250 in the winter cold months (I live in California)

At this very moment I've taken the whole thing apart(weighs 150 LBS) and it's a terrible engineering design to attempt to work on.

It's apart because I'm trying to see why flame and blow back is coming from igniter area, understand why two of the igniters aren't working and why burners blow out when its windy.

The temp gauge says 600 degrees, mine has never risen above 350 degrees on a hottest summer day. To tell the truth I probably won't even bother to put it back together.

I'm browsing the web looking for a different brand...also I am a licensed contractor and even built my 10 foot x 3 foot custom Island for this particular model to drop in too!

Jenn Air SS Gas Grill 720-0163 (Lowe's 18852)

by Elliott
(Palatka FL)

OMG... I WISHED had read these reviews but we all probably bought these junkers at about the same time. I thought I was buying a quality product based on my experience with home Jenn Air appliances(over 30yrs old and still excellent) and the price. It was always under cover and has the custom top

I researched at the time at bought this and read warnings to beware of some SS products (such as sold in big box discount club stores) due to poor quality burners.

I was lead to believe by the sales staff that not only were these units made by Jenn Air but had bronze burners and super quality SS components.

Now I have a great looking SS storage box. My son's Char-Broiil is much superior.

Can anyone say Class Action Lawsuit against Lowe's.

Jenn Air (NexGrill) Gas Grill Model 720-0100-NG

by J D Tremblay
(Murphysboro IL.)

THE STORY

In spring of 2002 we purchased a Jenn Air Gas Grill from Lowes and from day one it would not get past 400 Degrees F.

After spending over $1000.00 on a grill I was Livid to say the least. I called the Help number and talked to a Very helpful person at Nexgrill she walked me through several things and then had me measure the supply line to the grill (1/2 inch copper line) so she tells me there is the problem.

I have a plumber come and run a 1 1/2 inch pipe to the grill and what do you know temp blasts past 900 Degrees F. in like 15 minutes of pre heating.

Fast forward to 2007 Bronze burners burned out heat shields burned out and grates nasty so I call Nexgrill again thinking get ready for a beating I talk to another person I give them my Model Number and Serial Number and what parts I need. She lists out the parts and I ask what is the butchers bill she says like $15 or $16 shipping.

After picking myself up off the floor I ask is that all she says yes total time on the phone 10 minutes.

Fast forward again 06/15/2011 my heat shields are burned out again and the grates are in bad shape so I call Nexgrill again this time I am sure I will have to part with a substantial amount of cash for my grill parts. I tell the agent on the phone I need a set of grills and a set of heat shields and she tells me that they are STILL COVERED BY WARRANTY and says she wants to send me a new set of burners also so I would have new parts and really almost a new grill.

I mention that the temp gauge is out she says it isn’t covered by the warranty and it is like $6 bucks I pay that and shipping on the entire order the total bill was less than $17.00 so for a total of $1033.00 I have had the most AWSOME grill for coming on 10 years. That is $103.00 per year and counting to have a great grill on my deck.

ANY time anyone asks me what to buy I say spend the money and buy a Jenn Air they last forever and counting
Thanks

Jenn Air 720

Some people just have to complain I guess. I have the same grill that "Larry" in SC has. Best grill I have EVER owned.

Sure, after 4 or 5 years there are some parts that need replaced, but after 4 years (or less) with any previous grills the whole grill had to be replaced.

Also, Larry has exaggerated on the cost of replacement parts. They are about half of what he stated, and are available all over the internet with 2 day delivery.

Last, the size & features on this grill far exceed other grills. Too bad you can't get them new anymore. But if you find one used that's in decent condition & is priced right, I would take it.

As even Larry said, they are very durable, except for a few parts that you might expect to replace. The only parts you might have to replace are the burners, regulator, and the heat shields. With those replaced it will operate like new.

Jenn Air BBQ Grill

by Mike
(Detroit, MI)

This grill has been the absolute WORST grill that I have ever purchased, including cheaper models.

I first saw it in a well known nationwide Home Improvement chain store and the stainless steel and accessories made me plunk down over $2000.00 for what I thought would be the ultimate addition to my newly finished brick-paver patio.

After cutting myself more than once during assembly, I found the inner workings of the unit to be less than expected. The exterior was nice, but the interior was nothing more than a fire hazard waiting to happen...and it performed true to form.

After having the unit for almost 6 months, the unit caught fire during the warm-up process. I kept the unit clean and undercover during non-work days. But during a family gathering the unit went up in flames due to the warped slide-out tray allowing embers to ignite a small bag of wood chips stored under the unit.

Trying to find replacement parts is a joke, so I made the main unit an addition to the bulk pickup and plan to replace it with a Weber professional unit.

What a waste of money!

Jenn-Air 720-0163 Grill Review

by Lou
(Orangeville, IL)

My Jenn-Air 720-0163 grill caught on fire.

After calling the company they said all they could do was replace the working parts including manifold, ignition, burners, etc. the whole inside of the grill.

I received the manifold and ignition and nothing else. Now I can' get an answer to my email or telephone call.

With this kind of response I hope someone does start a Class Action Suit.

Jenn Air Barbecue Grill Review

by Keith
(Oklahoma)

I couldn't believe it when I read Larry's Jenn Air gas grill review. I only wish I had read it before I purchased my Jenn Air barbecue grill. I have experienced the exact same problems with the burners clogging, pans warping, parts rusting and the ingnitor not working. All with just one season of use. My grill is installed on a large covered patio and has never been exposed to the rain. We have a television mounted on the same wall as the grill and it has had no problems. I managed to make it through a second season with the grill but have had to put up with lighting it with a lighter and uneven cooking through clogged burners. I removed the burners and cleaned them out at the beginning of the summer.

I have had cheap grills from Wal-Mart last longer than this expensive Jenn Air. It is only 2 years old and I need to replace all of the grilling components. Only the exterior stainless parts have held up. I would not recommend a Jenn Air barbecue grill.

Jenn Air Gas Grill Review

Jenn Air Gas Grill Review

My Jenn Air gas grill (model 720-0165) is 3 yrs old. Its large and looked impressive in the store, Lowes, it was about $1000..I went into Lowes recently to see about basic parts and found Lowes no longer carries them...first thought "uh oh.."

Next I read a bunch of bad stuff on the net..wished I would have read it before..
the barbeque is on my deck in SC. It is covered with a factory cover 90% of the time.

When new and when the burners are cleaned out it cooks evenly. But the problems I've had:-

The 4 main burners keep clogging up about every 12 to 18 months and I have to brush them and use a drill bit to open - then a ton of greyish red dust comes out. I assume this is the cast iron falling to ruin.....you can get new burners they are a mere $50. a piece!

I thought the burners were bronze because of the gold color when new...wrong! All smoke and mirrors, it was a thin coating that didn't last long. The amount of material is alarming that comes out of the burners when you clean it, maybe about 1/4 cup and I've done this twice - at this rate I don't expect them to last but a couple of years more but I am not paying $200. for new ones. Also all 4 burners have warped.

The flash plates(the plates over the burners) are looking sort of worn from the heat..they are stainless steel and the look up price is a mere $45. ea for a thin stamped metal plate..wow..talk about being proud of your stuff!

The heat plate under the burners warped and bowed down so I had to modify it so I can get the drip pan in and out.

It has the neatest smoker tray that you pull out from the front but unfortunately it was thin regular steel and now has completely rusted away. It is useless - too bad i liked it.

The igniter has also stopped working.

You know its a shame companies are allowed to falsely advertise....apparently Jenn-Air had nothing to do with these grills, nxtgrill just used their name, seems dishonest. From what I've read Jenn Air will not deal with you....anybody know different??

All of the stainless parts meaning 98% of the grill are in great shape, had they not scrimped on one of the most important parts (the cooking parts!) it would be a great grill.....maybe if you lived in the desert????

I mean come on....parts rusting completely through in 3 years?? Thats from the humidity not rain because it was dry the last 2 summers.

It will break my heart in a few short years to have to junk this unit but I know nxtgrill and Jenn-Air will never receive any future business of mine. Also at my age you think I would have learned that a shiny outside doesn't always tell the story. Of course the brand name did suck me in too, like it was supposed to.

I would definitely not buy a Jenn Air gas grill again!

Jenn-Air Stainless Steel Grill

by Wayne Campbell
(Florida)

After reading a few of the reviews on this grill I felt that I should add my two cents worth because that is about all it is worth.

I bought a Jenn-Air Stainless Steel Grill 720-0163 from Lowe's in 2007 and use it 1 to 2 times per week. The heating became very uneven and flames were shooting up in the back of the grill. With further inspection of the burners they were burnt out and split.

I got on this forum and read what people were saying about the grill and the service they had received and it did not sound very good to say the least. Well, I was just as mad as the people that had been posting all the negative reviews thinking that this was a very expensive grill and should of lasted longer than 2 years.

Before giving up, I figured what the heck look at the owners manual and check the warranty to see what it was. What luck, the cast brass burners and flame tamers had a lifetime replacement.

All I had to do was call the number for assistance give them the model and serial numbers of the grill and they would ship the replacement parts and only had to pay shipping charges. Parts were in stock and should arrive with in the week. The service people were great to deal with. All I can say it it is a grill that the company stands behind for this family. HAPPY GRILLING

JENN AIR BARBECUE GRILL

by Gene H.
(New Orleans, LA)

OK it's my turn to vent.

I have a Jenn Air Barbecue Grill (Model# 720-0164)

It was April of 2006 when I purchased my grill from LOWES for $900.00 because it looked like a good piece of equipment compared to the competition and with the JENN-AIR name how could I go wrong? Boy did I make a big mistake.

For the first year the grill was great I even recommended it to friends and relatives. By the second year things started to change so I cleaned the holes in the burners.

In February of 2009 my wife told me the burner knobs were getting too hot to touch and it was difficult to light. When I began taking the grill apart I was amazed that it didn't blow up.
The flames were back feeding from the burners and had burnt the wires for the igniters. I was amazed at how everything was falling apart.

I called the 800 number that put me in touch with TGS - THE GRILL SERVICE. After proving proof of purchase and discussing what I was going through with the grill they said only the Flame Tamers and Burners were covered under the warranty. The ignition system wasn't covered.

I told them I really needed a new assembly which they told me it would be cheaper to buy another grill. They had all the parts except for the burners which took several weeks to come from CHINA.

So here it is May 2010 and I'm in search of purchasing another grill since the only thing left to this grill is the Shell which looks good on the outside but bad on the inside. Let me add this grill stays covered when not in use.

I will definitely do more research before investing in another grill. Which wont be JENN-AIR. I got more life from my older cheaper grill.

My advice is do your research and don't always go my a name because it was probably made by another company and neither one stand behind their product.

Jenn Air Grill Review

by PW
(Tigard, Oregon)

Oh no, here's another bad Jenn Air grill review!

The Jenn Air was a dream when we first purchased, you could cook anything on it and it wouldn't burn. Now, we are lucky to have it light.

This piece of garbage (we paid $699 3 years ago) has fallen apart. We have replaced the stainless burner covers, only $120+! Now need to replace the burners at $30-$40+ each. True, we are in a rainy climate in Oregon. We barbeque for 4-5 solid months during Spring, Summer and Fall...

Before this we had a silly Bi-Mart special BBQ for over 10 years. We only paid $139, but it didn't die! We should have kept it. My husband is ready to toss the Jenn Air in the recycle bin! What a waste of stainless steel!

Lesson learned -- no more fancy, all stainless grills for us!

Jenn Air - Model 720-0164

by Randy
(Tennessee )

Worked great until the burners began to plug and cooking was extremely uneven.

What a pain to get any help at all from the "Jenn Air" customer services. The grill was built by who knows and undoubtedly Jenn Air sold their name and reputation to some company that made charged way too much for a grill that definitely is NOT Jenn Air.

DO NOT buy a Jenn Air grill! They are 4 times the price for the quality provided.

Thanks Randy, check the links below and you'll see many other dissatisfied customers of Jenn Air grills. Is there anyone out there who does genuinely have a good experience to tell us?

Jenn Air 720-0720

Hello,

I came across your website and your comments about Jenn Air grills manufactured by Nexgrill while searching the web for BBQ recipes and .

FYI, Here's my story:

I purchased my Jenn Air model 720-0720 in March of this year for $699 at Costco. It is by far the best grill I have ever owned. This grill cooks and looks great plus it has all the features of a grill worth double what I paid.

The burners look great after 6 months of heavy use (as I keep them clean) also they are made of 304 stainless steel so they will last a long time.

I have contacted Nexgrill's customer service during the peak season and got through in a timely manner and my questions about my rotisserie were responded to in a professional manor.

I would recommend that anyone who wants a great looking grill with all the features run not walk to their nearest Costco and buy this grill!!

Please consider amending your review.

Thanks and great grilling!

I bought this grill at Sam's club on 4-1-12. After having the grill 10 days the control lights burned out. After calling jenn- air, I was sent the part to install myself. They gave me a contact number for customer assistance (what a joke) after calling, they said they would call me back in 3 business days. Good thing I'm mechanically inclined and fixed it on my own. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!!!!!!!!

Jenn-Air 730-0720

by Tom

This BBQ has been OK for the first 9 months or so. I purchased it from Costco in July of 2010 for $750.00. I had the same burner and flame tamer issues that appears everyone has had.

I received replacement burners and flame tamers and like everyone, paid the $16.00 for shipping. I began the replacement and found one of the brackets at the back of the burner box had broken, making it impossible to replace the burner since I don't have anywhere to attach the burner.

Problem 2; I can't get the screws out of the other 3 burners in order to remove the burners. I called Next Grill and was told "this is not a replaceable part. I told the call taker that in fact it is a replacement part, replace the BBQ.

She said that was not an option and I would need to hire a welder to come to my residence to weld a bracket (they don't have this either) on the fire box or screw it to the fire box.

I cannot believe that a company will not stand behind an appliance such as this and make a customer either weld or screw a bracket to the fire box. I told her that I wanted the case escalated. She said she is going to pass the claim to the "claim representative" and I should be getting a call back in the next few days possibly tomorrow. We will see what happens.

I, like a few other people, will not buy another appliance with the Jenn-Air name attached to it. Currently I have two major appliances with the Jenn-Air name.

Jenn Air Model #7200336

by Randall
(Randleman NC)

I have owned this 3 burner Jenn Air grill for 5 - 6 years. The guy at Lowes sold me on "full" lifetime warranty. A few years ago when I needed parts, the apologetic Nexgrill rep told me that many people had been misled, that only stainless steel parts were covered. For $16 + change for shipping, she sent 3 burners, 3 flame tamers, and 1 infra-red sear burner. Covered under the same shipping charge, I paid reasonable prices for 1 igniter nodule and 3 main burner igniter wires.

Today, 10/11/13, after reading many "no warranty coverage" reviews online, I tried anyway (1-866-601-5799). Again, 3 burners and 3 flame tamers are being sent at no charge (+ $16.49 shipping). I was disappointed to learn that the sear burner isn't covered any more ($44.15). I won't need it for quite awhile, but ordered it, 1 igniter @ $13.70, 3 igniter wires @ $2.36 each, and a new grill cover for $39.99, all covered under the same shipping charge.

I love my grill, as do my family and guests. I'm still getting compliments on it. It's the best I've had of at least 8 grills, and hopefully my last. We grill out at least 80 times a year. The only thing I would like to change would be to be able to get a higher flame at times, so I use olive oil to achieve this when desired.

Jenn-Air 720-0164

by Tuffy
(Virginia)

I bought the 720-0164 at Lowe's in '08.

I keep the beast covered when not in use and cleaned it after each use.

In 2013 I started noticing the control knobs getting hot on two of the burners. The flames were coming up between the control panel and the baffle-frying the ignition wires and blackening the stainless steel everywhere.

I stopped using those burners, and finally now have time to take the grill apart. I called the hotline 1800-554-5799. They are shipping out 4 burners, 4 flame tamers, cooking grids, and the warmer rack for $46.00 (S&H).

I was looking at the Weber monster grills (Very Nice!), but figured I can get another 4 years on this Jenn-Air junker as long as I can replace the burners when they start to corrode again.

After buffing out the blackened cover and panels, it should be tolerable to look at. If you want a bad-ass gas grill, look at the new porcelain/cast iron ones out there.

I also wanted to order new gas valves, but Jenn-Air (Nexgrill) says 4-6 weeks from China. The summer will be over by then.

Jenn-air propane gas grill

by Jerry Dockery
(Pleasure Island, NC)

A friend of mine had this and it quit working. He asked me if I would pick it up in my truck and take it to the recycling yard. I picked it up and it looked good on the outside. When I looked inside it was a mess. I don't think he had ever cleaned it. An hour with my pressure washer and I began to see the problem; the burners were all nasty and clogged with what was old drippings. I removed the burners and sprayed them inside and out with oven cleaner. After letting them sit overnight, I pressure washed them and let them dry. Everything worked except the side burner. I got my air compressor and blew out the lines. That solved the problem. This unit is marked "Made in China" so I will see just how much longer it works for me. For now, this is a great grill.

Jerry in NC.
