Corina's Special BBQ Sauce Recipe

by Corina Haywood
(Los Angeles, CA)

Yesterday I came home craving BBQ and went to work with the ingredients I had on hand to create my special BBQ sauce recipe.

It turned out delicious so I thought I would share it:)

Ingredients:-

  • 1 6oz can organic tomato paste
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup Ethiopian Coffee
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tblsp. Balsamic vineger
  • 1/2 red onion
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 1/2 tbsp: Chili powder
  • 1/2 tbsp: Paprika
  • 1tsp: White pepper
  • to taste: Sea Salt
  • a pinch: Anise seeds
  • 1 tsp: curry mix
  • 1 tbsp: olive oil

(I used a curry seasoning mix that I have that contains: curry, cayenne, mustard, and tumeric - so if you have something similar or any of the ingredients you can use that)

Method:-

In a sauce pan I sauteed the onion, garlic and anise seeds in olive oil until they began to show color. I then added tomato paste and water, vineger and coffee, stirring the ingredients together into a smooth texture.

Next I added spices and salt, brown sugar and maple syrup. I let it all simmer for 20-30 minutes.

The coffee and sugars balanced each other very well and the tomota paste with the paprika and chili powder give the suace it's smokey rich flavour.

Try it and tell me what you think or if you improved on it in some way:)

thanks,
Corina Haywood
