Turtle Burgers

by James Harbaugh
(Philadelphia, Ms. USA)

Turtle Burgers yum yum

Turtle Burgers yum yum

These do look awfully good!!! Maybe just one??

Turtle Burgers for the 4th of July ...(Yum Yum must try this one)

Mmmmmmm bacon...............this is a heart attack waiting to happen.

To make these, all you need is ground beef, sharp cheddar cheese, streaky bacon and hot dog sausages.

The Preparation

The body of the turtle is made out of ground beef just as if you are making a burger, make a pattie and season it with salt and pepper.

The pattie is then topped with sharp cheddar cheese, and then comes the technical bit.

You're going to need plenty of rashers of streaky bacon and then you cover the top with a weave of the bacon.

The easy way to do this is to lay rashers of bacon all in one direction across the burger. Now remove every other one.

Take one more rasher of bacon and lay it across the burger in the opposing direction (at 90 degrees).

Finally, replace those rashers that you just removed and fold back the rashers that are now underneath the single rasher that is at 90 degrees.

Place a second rasher next to the one that's at 90 degrees, replace the rashers that you folded back and fold back the others. Repeat the exercise until you've covered the burger.

By comparison, the next step is easy, add hotdogs as the heads, legs and tail.

To Cook

Place on an oven rack, covered loosely with foil and bake for 20-30 minutes at 400 degrees Fahrenheit (200 Celsius) and they'll come out a little crispy, not too crunchy...just how a turtle
should be, no?
